Tanka for Today

One in English:
Have you had a day
When nothing went right at all,
And yet in the end
Everything worked out better
Than it probably would have?

One in Japanese:
あの百合は
突然死んだ
その後出た
不思議雑草
もっと綺麗だ

ano yuri ha
totsuzen shinda
sono go deta
fushigi zassou
motto kirei da

Translation:
That lily
Died suddenly.
The strange weeds
That came later
Are more beautiful.

  • Almost ironic....but not quite...

I had a day, Friday, where nothing went right and in the end everything went wrong. As dear old Dad used to say, I was "screwed, glued, and tattooed".

    Tanka very much!

  • Ah, that was fun to read in Japanese (not the characters, I mean, the Latin letters!)

  • Oh, forgot to mention, today I was watching the Nat Geo channel's "How It Works" and I saw a Samurai sword made - takes 3 weeks, and thousands of folds in the metal block that is hammered into the blade.

  • Have you had a pickle
That was lumpy sweet and green,
That sqeaks when you bite into it
And it smiles and tells you
How much it enjoyed being eaten?
