This Is Plain Discrimination

I was happy when my little Neochat box finally reappeared on this blog after several months' absence due to "lack of server space". However, some of the comments I was getting weren't making a bit of sense. People kept talking about those silly, dancing bananas that had always been a (nauseatingly) regular feature of the box, but yet there were no images. All this time I just assumed that people were pulling my leg.

But then I made a discovery.

The animated emoticons, including the dancing bananas, work just fine when I view this site using Internet Explorer. However, if I view it in Firefox, as I always do here at home, then the emoticons are gone. I mean, there is no sign of them, even in the tool bar. Does that mean that the emoticons are restricted to servants of the Empire?

That sucks...

  • I'm viewing your site through Safari and don't see any dancing bananas or emoticons...

  • It means Firefox doan' like doze dang pop-ups! Word!

Para mi-it's a minor nuisance, since I can't stand pop-ups, with which the "internets" are flooded these days...

  • Whoa, that must be the case for me too! I'm only using FireFox, and the emoticons are not there for me either. The only way I can get bananas is by typing

I didn't know what the text codes were for the other symbols, so I was stuck with the infuriating banana. I'll have to try Explorer...

  • I think dancing bananas suck, so Firefox is doing me a service by not showing them.

  • Now that Firefox has 25% market share (if market is the right word for free browsers), the dancing baloney may be under development. It wasn't long ago that IE was at 90+%.

  • ???!?!?

    Now THIS is bizarre!

I'm looking at my site again today using Internet Explorer, the same browser on the same machine I was using before, and the emoticons are gone again.

    WHAT'S GOING ON??!?!????

I think NeoWorx is having an identity crisis.

  • I am using Internet Explorer at home to view web-site too, but couldn’t view any emoticons in your little Neochat box. Is there any story/joke relate to those dancing bananas? (so people kept talking about it).

  • I'm on IE at work and at play (home) and I get them dancing bananas everytime, all the time. They're not that bad, really, at least they remind you to lighten up a little. Besides, they are just minding their own business dancing on the sidebar. lol

  • Hmmmm.... I'm using IE to browse...
Right now, below your avatar, the boxes are all saying "the page cannot be displayed."

The story is just that Dewkid likes silly things.

I'm curious to know which version of IE you're using. Now that I think about it, when the emoticons worked I was using IE 6. They didn't work on IE 7, and they don't work on Firefox.

You have to have Flash player installed for those web counter thingies to work. Plus, NeoWorx's servers go down from time to time, meaning some or all of those widgets don't work.
