A Little Bit of Spring Color

The plum trees along the lane are blooming fuchsia.
Here and there a crocus rears its purple head.
My car, still BLUE,
Stands covered with greenish dust,
While overhead the sugi (Japanese cedar) are a sinister brown.
The wind calls, they belch forth a yellowish reply.
My eyes and nose are red.
I am NOT feeling in the pink.

Yes, spring has arrived...

  • You should paint your car every season...because...I said so?

  • I dunno, get a shot? Seems to work for some of the folks here who have super bad allergies.

Know one lady who had such bad allergies she had a shot a week...then she got pregnant at 40 (1st time), stopped the shots during the pregnancy, had the kid and the allergies never came back.

Maybe you should get pregnant then...then you'd be in the Guiness Book of World records too!

  • Achoo! I'm just getting over a bad cold. My allergies aren't to bad unless I get around cats.

  • Get well soon! :)

    Nuh-uh!

I've never heard of anyone getting allergy shots here in Japan. I don't know if they do it. There seem to be a lot of allergy clinics, though, so they must do something. Sugi pollen allergy is so widespread, though, that they probably figure there's not much to do about it. I mean, the weather report includes sugi pollen level information!

Yes, I remember well how the presence of cats in the house tortured you. Get over your cold, dammit!

    Selba
Thanks! Unfortunately, sugi season lasts a few months, and when it ends the hinoki pollen season starts (which isn't quite as bad, but it is still kind of annoying).

    Not bent, but maybe twisted?

Thanks. Maybe I'll get a New Year card from the makers of Contac and Benza-Block.

  • Ah yes, about this time, the pine trees north of Houston coat everything in their vicinity, you can see the yellow clouds being released in the breeze. And if you drive downtown everyone knows what part of town you're from!

  • Hello Moody,
I can't stay long on your blog as something causes my computer to go kaboom and freeze up - to do with stuff on the right hand columm. Anyway, have a good day. I deleted the above posting because of typing errors!

Yes, that's what we get from the sugi here. Are lots of people in Houston allergic to those pine trees?

    Wendy
If my animated web counter is causing your system to freeze up you probably need to update your Flash player. One other possibility: I had a similar problem on one of the computers I use at work, and it turned out there were two different versions of Java trying to run at the same time. I disabled the older one, and it solved the problem.

  • Allergies suck

By Blogger Swinebread, at 11:42 PM

  • Probably so!

I wasn't, my allergies came from the either the grass pollen or mold spores. But I have since discovered Clarityn, which works for me.

  • Well, maybe I should see if I can get that here, since I seem to have built up a tolerance to the three types of allergy medicine I've been taking in rotation.

  • Springtime allergies--the un-pink icing on springtime's cake of many colors. Ugh. Here it's the juniper pollen. Knock on adobe--I'm not inclined to it--but I've seen it turn people's eyes blood-red for weeks on end. Moody, I trust yours isn't that extreme.
